In accordance with guidelines set forth by the City of Childress, Childress ISD continues to observe the water boil notice. We commend our students, staff, and parents for their adaptability and patience during this time. We also extend our appreciation to our local and state partners for their assistance with resources.

On Tuesday, September 15, the tunnel on Commerce Street in downtown Childress will close from 8 a.m. until noon for inspections. At 1 p.m., the Main Street tunnel will close until 5 p.m.

The City of Childress has issued a boil water notice, effective immediately, due to low disinfectant residuals. The school district is prepared for the current conditions and has made the necessary accommodations to help keep students and staff safe throughout the school day. School will continue as planned, and we will follow all precautions until the notice is lifted.

A section of Main Street is closed off during the day to allow students to walk safely to the portables. These spaces are less secure than traditional classrooms and take money away from the district’s annual operating fund.
The 2026 Bond could allow the district to begin moving away from the need for portables as student academic space, ultimately leading to their elimination.

🏠 How could Bond 2026 affect homeowners age 65 and older?
For homeowners age 65 and older and individuals with disabilities who have the appropriate homestead exemption, the proposed bond would not increase their frozen school district tax amount, provided no substantial improvements have been made to the property.
Under current state law, homeowners age 65 and older with a home valued at $200,000 or less who have received the Over-65 Homestead Exemption may owe $0 in school district taxes.

• 25 exterior doors, more than most large high schools in Texas.
• No secure vestibule at the main entrance, allowing visitors direct access into the building.
• Aging infrastructure, including deteriorating interior walls and original clay plumbing that requires ongoing maintenance.
Prop A includes renovations and new construction to create a combined secondary campus with updated classrooms, shared learning spaces, and permanent academic facilities.
